New Moon Empowerment Center for Young Women
New Moon Empowerment Center for Young Women is an emergency center for teen mothers faced with an unplanned pregnancy and without a home. Our goal is to provide a solid foundation for those teens while encouraging the completion of education and building life skills.
Emergency Needs & Services
Services are provided to first time expectant mothers within the age range of 14-20 who are in need of care items and or mentoring.
Our goal is to offer emergency housing assistance by 2024 to teen mothers who have been displaced, homeless, and/or at-risk for homelessness and must agree to participate in the programs to reach self-sufficiency.
Residents who reside in the home must agree to actively continue their education, seek training and/or employment opportunities and permanent housing for mother and unborn child.
Statistics
According to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, as of 2018, Texas has the 9th highest rate of teen birth in the nation and the highest rate of repeat teen births. Approximately 15% of Texas girls give birth before the age of 20. According to data from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more young women in Texas become parents for a second or third time in their teenage years than any other state in the nation. In 2018, 19% of births to Texas teens aged 15-19 were not the teen’s first. Each year about 210,000 teens give birth. This population is also more likely to experience poverty, abuse, developmental and health issues than other populations.
How can we help?
We are seeking funding to continue to provide services to this specialized population and their future children. All donations will be used towards the program and services provided for expectant teen mothers. Donations are also tax deductible.
